The Instructional Strategies and Course Design Showcase is a collection of examples from UW Extended Campus (UWEX) online courses that represent best practices in online learning. Many of the examples feature testimonials from faculty and instructional designers highlighting their effectiveness and offering tips and suggestions for implementing them in your own courses. The showcase was built by the UWEX Instructional Design Team to help faculty, instructional designers, and anyone who’s building an online course spark ideas, save time during course development, and celebrate great course design work!
How to Use the Showcase
- Try an Example As Is: Are you working on a new course development or revision? You might find an example of an assignment or discussion that you can try right away!
- Adapt an Example: An example might spark inspiration for something to try in your own course with some modification.
- Explore Examples: Curious about what authentic assessments look like or unsure how to incorporate principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion into a course? Reviewing examples in a category can help you learn more about best practices and implement them in your course.
- Validate Your Practice: Do you have similar activities in your course? Wonderful! Keep up the good work!
As you can see, the showcase examples come from a variety of courses, but you can adapt all of them to your field of study.
