Breaking the Ice Using Photos
Overview
Students submit a photo or image that best describes them or is meaningful to them, along with a short description, as part of their introductions to the class.
Why Use This?
This activity is an easy yet effective way to get students to share something about themselves that goes beyond what’s usually shared in introductions (such as schools attended, hobbies, etc.).
How Does It Work?
Because this is an icebreaker activity, it should be the first discussion of the course. See the instructions for how to conduct the discussion below.

In this course, you will engage with each other in discussions, so it’s important to get started with an introduction that tells something about you, your life and your interests. Feel free to post a few photos/images that best describe you, along with a written description that explains how these images represent you.

Keep In Mind
Make the instructions clear that sharing a photo or image is optional so that students who prefer not to share one don’t feel pressured to do so.
