Penny Lyter Antonneau | UW-Parkside
Professor Emerita Penny Lyter Antonneau has more than 35 years of leadership in wellbeing, health sciences, higher education, and community engagement. Throughout her career, she has led innovative wellness and academic initiatives across hospitals, businesses, schools, universities, and community organizations.

Penny shared an assessment where students use AI to craft a memo proposing a wellness initiative to company leadership and then reflect on the AI drafting process.

- Limitations:
- AI-produced content often lacked organization-specific detail needed for the assignment.
- Could produce inaccurate or hallucinated information.
- Needed fact-checking and verification.
- Struggled with emotional appeal and human-centered persuasion.
Addressing academic misconduct, Penny recommended the following steps:
- Start each course with a personal reflection: ask learners to share stories about their own lives and experiences. This will give you a baseline understanding of their writing style.
- Assignments that require students to synthesize multiple sources, including articles, case study materials, and video content, can make it much harder to use AI to cheat.

Jamie O’Neill | UW-La Crosse
Jamie is an educator, nonprofit leader, and advocate for hands-on learning with experience in outdoor education, leadership development, and community-based programming.
Key Insights
In Jamie’s classroom example, students can use AI to help them create marketing material as part of their final project, and they are then asked to evaluate the quality of the AI-generated content.
- Benefits:
- AI helped students complete a task that wasn’t essential to the course objectives.
- Students gained experience with prompt engineering, a crucial workplace skill.
Lindsay Morgan | UW-Oshkosh
Dr. Morgan is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh School of Nursing and Health Professions where she teaches undergraduate and graduate nursing courses including pathophysiology, nursing care at end of life, aging client clinical and theory, among others.
Key Insights
In one of Lindsay’s online nursing courses, students create an educational pamphlet to inform patients and their families about a specific health condition, including its symptoms, causes, and treatment options.
- AI literacy should include evaluating, questioning, and validating AI outputs.
- Responsible use and disclosure are key skills, as well.
- AI use should be framed with reflective questions:
- Does AI enhance or replace learning?
- Does it complement your work or complete it?
- Are you ensuring accuracy and transparency?
